Artist Talk: Shary Boyle

  • IMA School Baker St Wells, BC, V0K 2R0 Canada (map)

Shary Boyle, mentor for the Toni Onley Artists Program, will be giving an artist talk at the IMA school on July 8, at 7pm. This event is by donation.

Shary Boyle is well-known for her bold, fantastical explorations of the figure. Highly crafted and deeply imaginative, her multi-disciplinary practice mines the history of porcelain figurines, animist mythologies and folk art forms to create a symbolic language uniquely her own.

Boyle represented Canada with her project Music for Silence at the 55th Venice Biennale in 2013. She works across diverse media, including sculpture, painting, installation and performance, and is exhibited and collected internationally. In 2015 she performed at the Luminato Festival and the National Gallery of Canada, created a commissioned sculpture for the Musee des Beaux Art Montreal, and exhibited in Ceramix, Ceramics and art from Rodin to Schutte, at Cite de la ceramique Sevres, FR. In 2017, Shary Boyle will present her work in Earthlings at Calgary’s Esker Foundation, the Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale in Korea, and Suzanne Bierderberg Gallery in Amsterdam, NL. Shary Boyle lives in Toronto.
