About the artist
Lisa Milroy was born in Vancouver, Canada and lives and works in London, UK. She graduated from Goldsmiths College in 1982, and was elected to the Royal Academy of Arts in 2005. She has been Head of Graduate Painting at the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL since 2009, and Guest Visitor at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, Amsterdam since 1994. Milroy won First Prize in the John Moores Painting Prize in 1989. She was Artist Trustee of Tate from 2013-2017 and Liaison Trustee to the National Gallery 2015-2017. She is a member of the Joanna Drew Bursary Committee. Milroy has worked with the Vodafone Foundation’s Instant Network Schools since 2015, where she initiated “Hands On”, a practical art workshop programme that can be delivered through digital connectivity for school children in refugee camps. Tate Liverpool presented a survey exhibition of Milroy’s work in 2000. Milroy regularly exhibits her work on the national and international stage, and her paintings are held in many public and private collections.
