This course is suited to students of all levels with a focus not only on developing drawing skills, but also on the use of drawing as a tool for personal exploration. The basic concept of working with the live model is to provide a systematic introduction to the “two dimensional surface arts” through drawing. Exercises and experiments offered to foster a feeling for the media will also concentrate on the “felt presence of space” as a framework, and the development of individual ideas with subjective expression as a goal.
Instructor Evelyn Armstrong is a multimedia environmental artist. She graduated with Honours in Lithography from the Vancouver School of Art and Design (now Emily Carr University of Art and Design). She completed her MFA at Vermont College, a MA in Liberal Studies (2007) at Simon Fraser University; and, she completed her PhD (2013) at the Institute for Doctorial Studies in the Visual Arts. With a particular interest in ethics, aesthetic engagement, and perception she has been researching the role of art and the artist in transdisciplinary theories on ecology and climate change. She has presented her eclectic work and ideas at related conferences. Her exhibition record is extensive and she has received numerous awards both for her community work and as an artist/teacher.
