About the Nest

Historically, it was known as the Gardner Building.

Garvin Dezell Contractors (who also built the Wells Community Hall) built it in 1938 for the Cariboo Gold Quartz Mining Company. This was a major office building for the company town! At that time, the first floor contained the Royal Bank and the RCMP. The second storey held the offices of the Wells Townsite Company and lawyer Hub King. From 1985 to 1989, Mosquito Creek Mine had offices on the first floor.

The team behind 2014

Staff: Julie Fowler, David Harder, Rebecca McCarthy (plus seasonal staff Ksenya Dorwart and Connor Kenney)

Board of Directors: Peter Corbett, Paul Crawford, Emma Jarrett, Buffy Rummel, Leah Selk, Thomas Schoen, Josh Trotter-Wanner and Yael Wand

The Gardner building also had lives as an outfitters and a private residence before it became the Nest!

In mid 2014, IMA launched an impressive, 75-day campaign to fundraise a down payment on the Gardner Building. The organization, along with the assistance of nearly 200 donors, raised nearly $40,000.00 towards a down-payment, numbers that impressed our local Integris Credit Union, encouraging them to partner with the organization, making our ownership of this slice of Sanders a reality!

Today, The Nest at boasts 7 cozy bedrooms, 2 kitchens, 2 living spaces, onsite laundry in the basement, and a large yard where everything from coffee to concerts happen! Thanks to funding from the BC Arts Council and the Quesnel Community Foundation, and work from Grizz Contracting, all bedrooms are outfit with visual smoke and carbon monoxide directors, increasing the overall safety of the building for folks who are d/Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing.
